SCM Ltd Sponsors Junior Tennis in Wallingford

We are very pleased to announce an exciting new initiative in South Oxfordshire, whereby a local company, SCM Ltd has sponsored weekly tennis coaching via Portcullis Tennis Club in Fir Tree School for one year. We are actively seeking other sponsors and hope to provide the services of our coach to the seven other schools in Wallingford and the immediate surrounding areas.

£4000 Grant Towards New Courts

We would like to say a big thank you to the Oxfordshire Community Foundation for their generous grant towards the recent resurfacing of all our 5 courts, and also well done to our very own Craig Wright for all his hard work in securing the money.

We are very pleased to announce the appointment of Imogen Wyatt as our new Head Coach. She will be joining us in February and has a wealth of tennis experience.  If you'd like to know more about Imogen take a look at her resumé.

On Friday 18th November our Social Committee put on an excellent Quiz Night. We raised just under £300, so thank you to everyone involved, and especially Jill, Jenny & Christiane.

AGM
Our AGM was held on Thursday 20th October, YouTube presentation of the meeting.

Courts
With the support of our members and a grant from SODC we were very pleased to have some wonderful new courts laid in early 2011. There are 5 courts, 4 of which have floodlights, made of an all-weather fast draining surface which are fantastic to play on.

N.B. Please be aware that it will take a year before they are fully cured, so we’ll need to keep small heavy items, such as chairs with thin legs, off of the courts until at least Spring 2012.

Ryan’s Fund-raising Activities
Our ever active coach, Ryan Trickey, has completed his marathon tennis match and is now the proud holder of the World Record for the Longest Continuous Singles Tennis Match. The old record stood at 55 hours 55 minutes and 55 seconds, and Ryan and his fellow player Andy Aitken smashed it setting a new record of 72 hours. Very well done to both of them.

It was all in aid of the Dan Maskell Tennis Trust and if you would like to donate you can do it now by texting ‘TENNIS’ to 70007 to donate £3 (plus a standard text message charge) or by visiting www.Justgiving.com/longestsinglestennismatch.

Portcullis Tennis Tournament
On the weekend of Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th September we are holding our annual tournament. The main event takes place on the Sunday afternoon, starting at 1pm. Come and join us whether or not you are playing for some refereshments and to cheers on the competitors.

Goodbye to Ryan
It is with great sadness that we said ‘good bye’ to Ryan in early October for him to fulfill his ambition of travelling the world. Whilst he will be sorely missed, we wish Ryan and Cat all the best with their new adventure.
